STAR

I am Stefanie Wright and I grew up in the rural community of Beloit, KS. My community has great small town values and I have carried those values of faith, trust, respect, and integrity with me throughout my life. I graduated from Beloit Junior Senior High School with a class of approximately 60 students. I am married, and my husband Matt is also a student at K-State. I started out my college career at K-State as a Kinesiology student. I spent three summers volunteering at a camp for kids with Muscular Dystrophy and that led me to change my career path to the field of education. I learned so much from the campers at MDA camp about being there for them, and that experience influenced my understanding that teaching is all about the kids.
I really enjoy life and Earth science. As a result, I chose science as my area of concentration and plan to receive a middle school endorsement in science. I am considering a master’s degree in academic advising because I enjoy working with college age students.
Currently, I am working on campus in the Computing and Information Sciences office. This is a wonderful opportunity because I work and interact with many people from many different cultures. I strongly believe this experience will help prepare me for work in a diverse classroom. I have also had two opportunities to travel to Mexico. I was privileged to go on a Mission Trip to Chihuahua, Mexico my senior year of high school. This great experience immersed me in the local culture. I also traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this past summer on a vacation. Both trips to Mexico have taught me so much about embracing different cultures. I am excited to be in the classroom and apply the knowledge I have gained and make an impact on students’ attitudes about learning.

cute picture of you and matt! I went to the library yesterday and found 5 books on our topic.  One of them is an adult one but I think ther are pieces we could apply.  I guess I will just look up the rest on the internet? Maybe head to a book store? Hope you are having a great weekend!

Wow, you seem to have a lot of experience that will make you a wonderful teacher. It must have been something to work at that summer camp. All the experience you have gained does make you very qualified to teach diverse students. Thanks for sharing all your experiences.
